After a very hot day at the Lomma Beach where you can basically walk half a way to Denmark without getting the water over your knees we had a dinner and after that a walk to my Australian friend´s house. There she offered us her fabulous carrot cake and a drink to fit the warm evening; ice, Australian rhum and ginger ale (Schweppes). Lovely. I also found out something that is a bit worrying. It is harder to get Australian rhum, or portwine at the shops or airport, since the European / Caribbean producers of the stuff do not want to let Australians use the brand name. There is also a row going on about Shiraz and other grapes´ names - the European wine producers say Australians are not allowed to use the name of the grapes. That is really silly - these grapes came to Australia with Europeans about 150 years ago -and ARE of course the grapes - like Iclandic horses are called Icelandics all over the world, or a German sheppard dog is a German sheppard even if it´s born and raised some where out of Germany. I hope a wine magazine will look in to this also here in Europe - or the WTO. The name of the plant is the name of the plant.
Here is a pic of the drink and the cake. Delicious. Foto: JPA
Greg, I better write in English so you can read, too.
